Hi I’m Sonya, I graduated from the College of Dupage in 2014. I was a dental assistant for 4 years before and while I was completing my dental hygiene degree. I went into the dental field because I always wanted to have a career where I can help people become healthier. My main goal is to have my patients be comfortable during their dental visit. I never want to make my patients feel bad, I want to educate and help them better their oral health while having fun and cracking my lame jokes. I love what I do, I enjoy where I work and I love the people that I work with. When I don’t have teeth on my mind I enjoy being outdoors as much as possible and visiting breweries.

Dr. Szrom graduated from the University of Illinois Dental School in 1987 and proceeded to do her residency at Rush-Pres.-St. Luke’s Hospital immediately after. However, her love of dentistry started all the way back in 1979 when she worked as a receptionist and assistant at a dental office in Chicago. Dr. Szrom performs all aspects of general dentistry, and she specializes in treating patients with dental anxieties. She says, “Throughout the years, I noticed that many patients who had dental fears were very comfortable with me and now I love taking care of patients who have had bad experiences with dentistry in the past.” She uses many ways to make the dental visit more comfortable including wireless headphones that patient can connect to their own phones, aromatherapy with or without head and shoulder cushions, dark glasses to eliminate the glare of the lights in the room and nitrous oxide if additional anti-anxiety help is needed. For those patients who have a strong phobia, she is one of a few select dentists in the state of Illinois with a license to provide conscious sedation.
When she isn’t working, Dr. Szrom enjoys gardening and teaching new tricks to her two dogs, Bear, a one- year old Labradoodle and Beemer, a five-year old Yorkshire Terrier. She also enjoys traveling to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan with her husband, John, of 30 years where she loves to hike and kayak. It is always an added pleasure when her two adult children get the opportunity to join them.
